Frequently Asked Questions1. How do I handle my insurance related project?Report your claim for wind and hail damage as soon as possible. Select a contractor that is willing and able to do much of the liaison work between you and your insurance provider. Many insurance companies will not work with a contractor without a written agreement between you and that contractor. Call your insurance company to schedule an appointment with their adjuster when your selected contractor can also be present. 2. How will I know how much my insurance company will give me?You will receive a "breakdown" from your insurance provider listing all items on your home to be replaced and their associated value. Most insurance payments occur in two phases: A first check (Actual Cash Value) is usually released after your insurance provider agrees to the damages. The final check (Replacement Cost Value) is typically released upon completion of the project by your selected contractor. 3. How long do I have to submit a claim?Minnesota is quite generous to the homeowner compared to other states. You have two years from the event of the storm to submit a claim. Your insurance company may ask you for the date of the storm. Your selected contractor can assist in this matter. 4. What is "re-decking" and how does it affect the cost of my project?Certain conditions associated with your roofing project may be concealed by the old roof scheduled to be removed. The removal of this material sometimes exposes conditions, such as a rotted deck or rafters, which were concealed from view when your estimate was written. Minnesota State Building Code requires you have a solid surface to install shingles upon. Re-decking is the replacement of old, rotted decking and replacing it with this required solid surface. The cost of this extra work is expressed in a "Change Order" that explains the additional cost of this unanticipated work. 5. How long will my project take? The average residential roofing project will take one full day to complete. It could go longer depending on the steepness of the pitch and the design of the roof. The average siding project will take three days. Gutter installation takes one day for most homeowners. 6. What steps does Ryan Roofing take to protect my property?Because of the nature of our work, all of our personnel have been trained to remove their shoes before entering your home. We alert you the day before the project begins so you can remove from your walls anything that could fall due to the fact that there may be vibration during your project. We protect your landscaping, decks, windows, siding, exterior furnishings, grills etc with tarps or plywood. We also place boards beneath the wheels of our dumpsters so they don't sink into the asphalt of your driveway. 7. What happens when I have a problem?
